SPARK Spring Showcase and #TKTD25 Springy!

Our beloved 5th graders perform a song to help us through the pandemic:

National Award-winning Music Teacher, creator, and percussionist K. Michelle Lewis worked with some of our SPARK students to help create super fun & meaningful routines for songs by Georgia Artists including:
 Stand by R.E.M.
Old Town Road by Lil Nas X
Hey Ya! By OutKast.

We used parts of each routine. The Body Beats Team: Advika, Ilan, Fiona, Noa, Maddy, Kayden, & Cate. Michelle also created the routines for Ain’t No Mountain High Enough & I Feel Good Thank you to: Dr. Sara Womack and the #APSArtistsCollab for funding for this project.

Other routines from our Showcase came from or were inspired by:

Maria Ellis created the Soulfege Slide. She is a Music Educator and Conductor from St.Louis, MO and she was also our GMEA District 5 Honor Chorus conductor!

Kaboom Percussion At its core, the Kaboom team are passionate about harnessing the fun side of music, showing the world that music can be played with even the simplest of objects.

Musication music+education+gamification = musication. "musication" is a private channel from Jan Vink, music teacher in the Netherlands (Primary education).  He creates visual playalongs for boomwhackers, (body-) percussion and handbells for primary education.

Additional moves for Stand by R.E.M. were inspired by Murmuration by Sadek Waff Instagram

Closing out the year with some more fun songs!

Flipgrid Fine Arts Festival2 #TKTD24

One year ago, the world began turning to the arts for comfort and entertainment, and we started a weekly (now monthly) variety show: Tiny Kids at Tiny Desks to give kids a chance to show their talents and express themselves while bringing some joy to our community.
Our first show featured the students who would have been part of our in-person Fine Arts Night, and we turned it into our first virtual Flipgrid Fine Arts Fest.

Twenty-four episodes and 411+ videos later we’re still going! Please share a special performance you feel proud of, and join us on Wednesday, March 31 at 6pm at http://springdaleparkmusic.blogspot.com for our one-year anniversary show!

Videos will be available to watch any time! Just sign into the topic below, and enjoy the performances!

Also, celebrating Music in Our Schools Month, check out these performances! GMEA Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus featured 9 SPARK singers!

The performance video for Ella Sing!

One Voice, featuring SPARK & Grady students, and other students from all over APS

#TKTD21 #ArtsAreEducation #MIOSM #YAM

Schools and communities that recognize the value of arts education in the 2021-22 school year and beyond should ensure that:
Arts education programs continue to be funded.
Arts classes are offered across all areas and appropriately scheduled.
Curriculum and scheduling designed to address “learning loss” includes the arts.
Arts educators continue to be employed and teach in the discipline for which they were trained. Resources that are critical to an arts program’s success should always be available.
Professional development for arts educators be appropriate and comparable to that of other subject area teachers.

If you believe every student in APS & beyond deserves complete offerings and meaningful programming of Art and Music at school, if you think the Arts make life better, please read about #ArtsAreEducation and film a testimonial for Art & Music at SPARK!

#MusicinOurSchoolsMonth #MIOSM #YouthArtMonth #YAM

Please speak up for the arts, so we can continue to teach your children to find and use their voices!

with activities and suggestions on how to advocate for the Arts in our schools!
