UPDATED Info for Sunday, April 14 and Saturday, April 20

This Sunday I had planned for the singers to have 1:30pm and 2:30pm performances, but I realized that I have a conflict with another concert--I sing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus--this week we're doing Beethoven's Ninth (Ode to Joy from our December concert) and Bernstein Chichester Psalms (which includes Hine Ma Tov's text) and we have a 3pm concert Sunday (which should have been on my calendar, but wasn't), so I have to leave after our first set.

NEW DETAILS:
1:30 gig: Chorus/AC arrive at Hirsch house a bit before 1pm for warm-up. Regular uniform. We’ll be in the front living room (take a right as you enter the front doors). We’ll perform a set as a group together 1:30-1:45pm, then Turgeon leaves to go to sing Beethoven/Bernstein.

1:45--> After Ms. Turgeon leaves student performances will be completely self-guided, and no uniform necessary--students go to the performance space, set up, introduce themselves, play/sing/whatever at the chosen time. Think of it like a relaxed version of Fine Arts Night/Coffee House. Below is a link to a sign up sheet for you to choose what time your child will perform. The doc is editable, so if there are empty spaces, just fill your child's name in the blank you wish to reserve. I met the former owners/residents of the Hirsch House, and they were WONDERFUL. On Saturday a member of the Hill family will sing in the same space, accompanied by harp.

For Sunday, There will be a keyboard, mics and sound system, chairs and music stands. The audience may or may not listen (welcome to the life of a musician), but the students should play anyway, and do your best! Please remind kids to be on exceptional behavior.

Performer Sign up for Druid Hills Tour of Homes (click for editable document).

Also, we are ON for April 20 with about 10-15 singers. We will work on some Turkish songs and dances as well as some of our usual repertoire. I'm so excited!

From Sude's Mom:
I’d love to invite you and SPARK chorus to the International Children’s Day celebration on Saturday April 20th. We will start gathering around 1pm, program will begin at 1:30, very likely to continue till 3:30pm. Venue is Centennial Academy at 531 Lucky Street. If you like I can even help you teach a simple Turkish song, that would be an awesome surprise to the audience : )

Sude will play piano, her brother Batu will play electric guitar and participate in the Turkish folkloric dance, little sister Aylin (4) will also dance in the younger kids’ group. There will be Turkish music, traditional dances, poems etc. Also there will be tables for different countries where kids will visit and learn about them and stamp their passports (similar to SPARK international night).

Here’s a brief info on this day:
Every year, the children in Turkey celebrate this "Sovereignty and Children's Day" as a national holiday. Schools participate in week-long ceremonies marked by performances in all fields in large stadiums watched by the entire nation. Among the activities on this day, the children send their representatives to replace state officials and high ranking civil servants in their offices. The president, the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, provincial governors all turn over their positions to children's representatives. These children, in turn, sign executive orders relating to educational and environmental policies. On this day, the children also replace the parliamentarians in the Grand National Assembly and hold a special session to discuss matters concerning children's issues.
During this day many countries send groups of children to Turkey to participate in the festivities. During their stay in Turkey, the foreign children are housed in Turkish homes and find an important opportunity to interact with the Turkish children and learn about each other's countries and cultures. The foreign children groups also participate in the special session of the Grand National Assembly. This results in a truly international Assembly, where children pledge their commitment to international peace and brotherhood. The importance of April 23 as a special day of children has been recognized by the international community. UNICEF decided to recognize this important day as the International Children's Day.
