Band, Orchestra, & Chorus Choices for 4th and 5th Graders

The Music@SPARK performance uniform for Band, Orchestra and Chorus is:

• The Green Music@SPARK polo
• Black pants/skirt/shorts/
• black shoes/socks

Fourth and Fifth Graders at SPARK have several choices to make about the courses they'd like to study for Music. You may indicate your choices here:

The choices and additional information are listed below.
5th graders who were in Band or Orchestra last year will be automatically re-enrolled in their chosen ensemble.

Student's Instrumental Ensemble *You must choose one of the following. SPARK students who do not attend Band or Orchestra have Extra Art, Music, and Spanish.

• Band--choose from Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, and some percussion
• Orchestra--choose from Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass
• Extra Art/Music/Spanish--attends EXTRA Art, Music, and Spanish classes on a rotating schedule

Chorus Choice *1. Advanced Chorus (meets after school on Fridays) These students are automatically part of Chorus as well 2. Chorus Performer--completes all Music classwork and responsibilities AND attends performances in December and May (other concerts by invitation or interest) 3. Chorus Non-Performer--completes all Music classwork and responsibilities but is not expected to perform.

• Advanced Chorus --Performs with the Chorus AND attends after school rehearsals on Fridays until 4:30pm
• Chorus Performer--Learns Chorus music during Music Class, performs in concerts
• Chorus Non-Performer--Learns Music during Music Class, but does not choose to perform

                  5:30pm Chorus & Advanced Chorus                                (call time 4pm—students may stay after school 

with a parent note, snack, and uniform)          

Island Music from the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific 
3rd, 4th, or 5th graders who did the Stick Game or Hula for the project may perform with us--your call time is 5-5:15pm 
Please wear/bring your hula attire

How to learn Maori Poi

Projects DUE on your Music class day 

during the week of April 29^th 

The project must be performed or turned in by this date 

WITH the appropriate rubric completed (below)

For the “live” activities you must sign up for a time with Ms. Turgeon between April 29^th and May 3^rd or submit a video by your due date.
Tuesday Classes: Project--April 30^th—Music Chart & Reflection May 14^th
Thursday Classes: Project--May 2^nd—Music Chart & Reflection May 16^th
Friday Classes: Project--May 3^rd—Music Chart & Reflection May 17^th 

(5th graders who are going to Wahsega may turn their reflections in on Monday, May 13th or Friday, May 17th)

Absolutely no projects will be accepted after Monday, May 6^th. Late projects=lost points.

Early projects are always welcome and are worth bonus points!!

Students who do not turn in or complete a project activity should plan to take the “Anything Quiz” before or after school on May 6^th (before school if they work quickly, after school if they'll need more time to finish)

*Students may work with a partner or group (up to 4) on the projects with an asterisk (*) if I receive a note from each child’s parents indicating that you know the kids are working together by April 19^th.  

Groups must show proof that each person contributed to the final product and complete a group rubric..

 

The best Concert Projects may be part of our SPRING CONCERT on May 13th!  If your child has questions I am available every morning before school from 7:45-8:00am.
