Agenda Answer for Week of 8/23

Describe the meaning of 4/4, 3/4, and 6/8 time signatures.

The top number tells us what the meter in the piece is, and the bottom number tells us what the note value for each pulse is.

For example, in the picture below the time signature is ¾.

The 3 tells us that the piece is in triple meter (there are three pulses per measure), and the 4 tells us that the quarter note gets the beat.

Example:

2--duple meter
8--eighth-note pulse

examples from Munchkins and Music

You could also go to SFSKids for a GREAT lesson on the basics of music!

Agenda Answer for Week of 8/16

Music Trivia: Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977. How long ago was that?

The tempo is the speed of the music.
The beat is the steady pulse, like your heartbeat.
The rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds in the music.
